The Ark Encourages Youth Entrepreneurship

The Ark Antiques & Flea Market is home to about 140 different vendors, several of which fit their vending responsibilities around their busy lives as students.

“It has been an exciting experience so far,” said Brody, age 14, who started in July ‘24. “I love being able to watch my sales online. Ben and the other staff having trust in me has made it really nice.” Brody, who sells sports cards, is excited to grow his sales and take on additional space at The Ark.

Grayson, age 12, summarized his experience as follows: “My experience has been great. All of the staff have been so supportive and helped me reach my goals.” Grayson has been selling at The Ark for more than a year now.

Grayson also sells sports cards and related memorabilia. “Before I started my booth, I couldn’t really find many places to buy football cards. My inspiration is really that I continue to make money each month. One of my goals is beginning to save money for the future. Half of my check each month goes into a savings account for college. I can’t work a different job because of my age, but this allows me to begin to save.”

Collin, age 14, has been selling sports cards, Pokemon cards, and clothes for two months at The Ark. “My experience at The Ark has been unmatched,” said the young entrepreneur.

Coffey, who also started his first booth at 14, is happy to see the next generation of sellers find a home at The Ark. “One of the best parts of my job is seeing vendors succeed. It’s especially gratifying to see young vendors succeed, many of whom remind me of myself when I was just starting at their age, too,” said Coffey.

The Ark offers a discount to young sellers. In addition, The Ark will host their second-annual Youth Entrepreneur Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, October 12, ‘24. Setup is free for school-aged sellers. “This is a great place for young folks to learn more about sales and customer interactions. It’s a training ground and revenue-generating opportunity for young vendors.”

Young entrepreneurs must have permission and support from an adult who can support them during sign-up and throughout their vending experience.

Sellers interested in learning more about opening a booth or selling at the sidewalk sale are encouraged to visit The Ark’s website at www.thearkmcpherson.com.
